During the Art Basel weekend earlier this month Chabad at Midtown placed a Tefillin stand in Wynwood.
Michael, a 56 year old man visiting from North Florida was one of the many who visited the stand. Having not had the opportunity to mark his Bar mitzvah at 13, this was his first time performing the Mitzvah of Tefillin, thus having his Bar Mitzvah in the streets of Wynwood!
This story did not take place half-way across the globe or even a few miles away. It happened right here, in your community. Michael's story is one of the many sparks constantly ignited in our community.
It is stories like these that constantly remind us that we must never rest in our mission of reaching every Jew and providing them all with the tools necessary for exploring and living their Judaism.
The real truth is that people like you are the ones who make these stories possible. Without the support of the community, we could never do the vital work we do.
By all accounts, 2013 was a successful year. MAORkids was established offering a space for children to explore our tradition, a land was purchased for the future home for Chabad and hundreds of people walked through our doors. But we don’t look at it as mere numbers. Each is a story.
As the end of 2013 nears, I turn to you to ask you to consider supporting the Jewish future of this community. Without your partnership we won’t be able to tell these stories:
- Welcoming a new family into a loving and vibrant community
- Having a child smile with pride after learning to read the aleph bet for the first time
- Providing a sense of belonging to a senior citizen in a nursing home
- Wrapping tefilin with Michael for the first time at the age of 56.
With each passing day, the need for a strong and vibrant community is more imperative. Not enough words can be said to emphasize our turbulent spiritual times. If we are able to give even just one more child a Jewish education, this alone is enough fuel to keep us going on our mission.
Together, we can create many more stories.
May G‑d bless you, in the merit of your kindness, that this coming year be one of great success, both materially and spiritually.
Thank you for your friendship and support.
Respectfully,
Rabbi Shmuel Gopin
P.S. Your tax-deductible contribution of $360, $180, $72, or any other amount will help provide the vital services the Midtown community relies on.
